CREW LIST ON MARCH 23, 1944
German fighters, Fw-190's and Me-109's, attacked the B-17. An
Fw-190 was hit by one of the B-17's gunners and exploded just off
the left wing, causing it to be torn off. The B-17 exploded and
crashed at Varenesch near Goldenstedt, 10km east of Vechta,
Germany. Stephens, Hines, and Paridaen were identified by the
Germans and buried in the POW cemetery at Vechta. They were
reinterred at the American Cemetery in the Ardennes. Maidment,
Kuipers, and Griffith were buried in one collective grave as
unknowns.
