On the way to the target, this plane had one of its' elevators shot
away. It was then hit by flak on return from the target. With the #1
engine on fire and #2 smoking, the pilot, flying over the North Sea,
headed for the German mainland. The aircraft crashed on the mud
flats 8km west of Schilling, which is situated at the mouth of the
Jadebusen River, 27km NNW of Wilhelmshaben or about 6km south of
the airfield on Wangerooge Island.  The entire crew became prisoners
of war.

Thanks for the pictures, Jim!
