42-97222   DEUCES WILD

AKA PUPPY BREATH

NO MACR  Mission #197
Target: Chemnitz, Germany
Date: February 6, 1945
Since the last three digits of the tail number were “222” the crew aptly named the plane.

While over Frankfurt, the plane was hit by flak. Three engines were lost. The crew salvoed the
ball turret and anything else they could move and throw out hoping to maintain enough altitude to
reach friendly territory. They were successful, as they made a wheels up landing in France. All the
crew survived.
My uncle's crew(Capt Patrick/Pilot) flew this plane on mission #43 to Berlin, May 7, 1944.

Pictures below show damage to A/C 42-97222 on June 25, 1944 after a previous accident.
