The target on Mission #144 was Munster, but for unknown reasons, the
Hardorf marshalling yards were bombed. This may have been at the
request of Supreme Allied Headquarters for the benefit of ground forces.
the target was bombed visual, with fair to good results. Flak was moderate
A/C # 43-37744 had the #2 and #3 engines smoking and was last seen to
leave the formation under control at the Initial Point. The plane eventually
lost 3 engines and made an emergency landing near the road
Venray-Castenraij, @ 20km NW of Venlo, Holland. The Germans reported
that it was set afire, presumably by the crew. All crew members were taken
prisoner by the Germans. Gieseler, Sklaroff, and Neubeck were
hospitalized.  All ten crew members survived the war.
