44-8518 is the B-17 to the extreme right.
Notice the P-51 escort at the bottom of the picture.
44-8518 was returning from a bomb run at the tank factory in Berlin. 1LT
Wagoner was flying as the deputy lead of the high squadron. He called
over his VHF asking for fighter support right after passing the Rally
Point. He had 3 engines feathered and was trying to make friendly
territory. At 11:05 hours, Lt Wagoner called again and asked for a fix. He
was given a position of seven miles north of Brandenburg. At 11:09
hours, he again requested fighter support. The B-17 was last seen at
coordinates 52*48'N, 13*50'E, at 10:55 hours, at an altitude of 26,000 feet,
and a heading of 222 degrees. The plane crashed at Tagewilsten, which
is west of Lingen/Ems, Germany.
